antiSYSTEM

The main idea of the design is based on the essence and philosophy of Metelkova City. It is an unique alternative conglomerate, based on the creativity of the individuals, unknown artists and DIY movement, without being planned or organized from above. Such a place doesn´t need artificial artistic gestures and monuments – it needs a playful multifunctional space, which gives the users a freedom of choice.

In this case the architect should let the public/artists to create the programme, function, meaning and content on their own. The aim is to create a public space – urban meeting point, which marks and identifies a gate to the different world of Metelkova City. To the world of artists, creativity and a personal freedom. The urban meeting point should be as simple as possible and it should have the multifunctional usage. It should be visible enough to offer a new meeting point for the visitors of Metelkova City.
My design is a metaphor of the life in Metelkova City. „All alternatives grew up from the void in a system.“ antiSYSTEM urban point is made as an urban furniture. Clear and simple structure of 5 by 5 boxes is interrupted by a gap in a platform, where the tree should be planted. The tree grows up in an empty square –the alternative grows where some mistakes in the system have occured. The urban furniture can serve a variety of purposes. Boxes have different heights to be able to adapt for different activities and to stimulate the creativity of its users -they will make the structure alive. Noone can anticipate, how the stage will look at the end. It´s the magic of Metelkova City.
